in voting at local elections?

On Thursday 4 May 2023 voters in Geldeston will choose a new parish council. Eight candidates have been successfully nominated to fill the seven places for councillors on Geldeston Parish Council.

The “Notice of Election” issued on 16 March 2023 by Returning Office Trevor Holden listed the procedure for nomination of candidates for election of Town and Parish Councillors in the district’s 11 towns and 86 parish councils (§§ 1-4). That process closed at 4 pm on Tuesday, 4 April 2023.

Are you registered to vote?

The “Notice of Election” also listed the deadlines parishioners must meet if they are not already registered as voters. The texts of §§ 5-10 are repeated below:

5If any election is contested, the poll will take place
on Thursday, 4 May 2023.
6Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, South Norfolk Council, by midnight on Monday, 17 April 2023.
Applications can be made online at – https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
7Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, South Norfolk Council, by 5 pm on Tuesday, 18 April 2023.
8Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector’s document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, South Norfolk Council, by 5 pm on Tuesday, 25 April 2023. Applications can be made online at – https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate
9Applications for a proxy vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, South Norfolk Council, by 5 pm on Tuesday, 25 April 2023.
10Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer no later than 5 pm on Thursday, 4 May 2023. (Note: there are specific criteria that apply to emergency proxy applications.)
